The High Level Political Forum (HLPF) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will meet at UN headquarters in New York from July 9 to 20, 2018 to conduct a review of progress towards the achievement of the SDGs. This meeting is expected to attract thousands of development specialists from around the world. This review will include a review of Objective 11, the cities objective, which will take place for two hours on Wednesday morning, July 11. Speakers will include representatives of specific countries and other organizations.
The New School will host a full day conference on “Cities and the Global Agenda: On the Road to the U20 in Buenos Aires” co-organized with Mistra Urban Futures, the University of Buenos Aires, and the Global Platform for the Right to the City. This event will be held in the Theresa Lang Student Center (which seats 220 people) at 55 West 13th Street and consist of an introductory session and three sessions in the form of panels.
Among the speakers and panelists are Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director of UN-Habitat; Eduardo Moreno, Director of Research and Capacity Development at UN-Habitat; Prof Michael Cohen, The New School; David Simon, Mistra Urban Futures; Jeanette Sadik-Khan, Bloomberg Associates and former NYC Commissioner of Transport (tbc) and Susan Parnell, Deputy Director, African Centre for Cities.
