Urban metabolism and ecosystem services in Kisumu City
The project aims at understanding and describing the complex urban processes and the socioecological challenges to urban sustainability. It is to be achieved through baseline study and engagement of stakeholders and review of operational documents and existing literature, baseline data generated to enable researchers to understand the complex process of urban metabolism and ecosystem services in Kisumu City with an aim of establishing the challenges and develop framework/mechanism for policy review/formulation, research and change of approach in tackling the challenges.
For the promotion of environmental conservation, preservation and restoration for sustainable use of natural resources, stakeholder engagement will focus on identified contentious issues on sustainable utilization of natural resources and waste resources management as well as intervention opportunities. It will also include interest and inclusion of disadvantaged groups such as waste pickers/scavengers, waste entrepreneurs, women, youth thus minimizing social gaps and addressing equity concerns in the county.
