Karl-Gunnar Olsson

Karl-Gunnar Olsson is a professor in Architecture and Engineering, Department of Architecture, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. He is also Director of the Built Environment Area of Advance, Head of the dual Civil Engineering and Master of Architecture program as well as Head of Structural Design, Department of Architecture, all at Chalmers University of Technology.

Prior to that Karl-Gunnar was responsible for the MSc program and external course program at the Division of Structural Mechanics, Lund University, Sweden.

Karl-Gunnar’s research is mainly aimed at concepts and forms for representation of engineering systems in the building design process. This includes interaction between architects and engineers, conceptual thinking, digital tools in the conceptual design phase, and range from architectural conservation to design of new buildings. He is an author of several books in the field of structural mechanics and a frequent guest lecturer in the field of architecture and structural design.

Karl-Gunnar has been an Expert advisor to the independent government institution ACE Denmark for the accreditation of the MSc in Architectural Engineering, at DTU, Technical University of Denmark. Other government assignments include being Lund University’s representative in the RET (Schools of Engineering Chancellors) Program Evaluation Group commissioned with evaluating the programs of training in City Planning and in Civil Engineering in Sweden and in Finland.
